Turkish Specialized Dental Publication (TSDP) is committed to upholding internationally recognized standards of research ethics and protecting the rights, dignity, autonomy, privacy, safety, and well-being of individuals participating in research published in its affiliated journals.
Research involving human participants, human biological materials, patient records, clinical information, or identifiable personal data must comply with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical and regulatory requirements.
These requirements include the ethical principles established by the current World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki and the Recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
Research involving patients, clinical interventions, diagnostic procedures, biological specimens, or other human-related investigations must be conducted under appropriate ethical oversight. Where required, formal ethics approval must be obtained before the commencement of the research.
1. Human Research Ethics
Research involving human participants, human-derived biological materials, identifiable personal information, medical or dental records, clinical images, or other potentially identifiable data must undergo review and approval by a recognized Institutional Review Board (IRB), research ethics committee, or equivalent authorized body, where required by applicable regulations.
Authors must include a clearly identifiable Ethics Approval Statement within the submitted manuscript.
This statement must specify:
The full official name of the approving institution, Institutional Review Board, or research ethics committee.
The ethics approval or reference number, where available.
The date of ethical approval, where required.
Confirmation that the research was conducted in accordance with applicable institutional, national, and international ethical standards.
Where formal ethics approval was not required, authors must provide a clear explanation of the applicable exemption and identify the relevant regulatory provision, institutional authority, or ethics committee responsible for determining or granting the exemption or waiver.
Authors must not independently assume that ethics approval is unnecessary when institutional or legal requirements mandate formal review or an authorized determination of exemption.
TSDP or the responsible journal may request supporting documentation, including ethics approval letters, informed-consent records, approved research protocols, or other relevant documents, at any stage of manuscript evaluation or following publication.
Where concerns regarding the authenticity, validity, or adequacy of ethical approval arise, the publisher or journal may seek clarification directly from the authors'.
