Editorial Team and Responsibilities

The Editorial Boards of journals published by Turkish Specialized Dental Publication (TSDP) comprise appropriately qualified academics, researchers, clinicians, and subject specialists responsible for overseeing editorial evaluation, peer review, and the scientific quality of published research.

Editorial Board members are expected to uphold the principles of academic integrity, editorial independence, impartiality, confidentiality, accountability, and responsible scholarly publishing.

Their responsibilities include supporting the fair and rigorous assessment of submitted manuscripts, maintaining the relevance of published content to each journal's aims and scope, and ensuring compliance with established editorial and publication-ethics standards.

1. Appointment of Editors

Editors and Editorial Board members are appointed on the basis of their academic qualifications, professional competence, scientific expertise, and ability to contribute effectively to the journal's editorial activities.

Selection criteria include:

  • Academic qualifications and relevant professional credentials.

  • Demonstrated expertise within the journal's aims and scope.

  • An established research and scholarly publication record.

  • Relevant academic, clinical, or professional experience.

  • The ability and commitment to fulfill assigned editorial responsibilities.

  • Familiarity with peer-review procedures, research integrity, and publication ethics.

  • A demonstrated commitment to impartiality, confidentiality, and responsible scholarly communication.

Editorial appointments must be based on professional and academic merit.

TSDP supports fair and non-discriminatory selection practices. Editorial candidates must not be disadvantaged on the basis of nationality, geographic location, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, ethnicity, disability, age, or other personal characteristics unrelated to their professional qualifications and ability to perform editorial duties.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for assessing submitted manuscripts according to their scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, clarity, and relevance to the journal's academic scope.

Editorial recommendations and publication decisions must be informed by objective scholarly evaluation, independent peer-review reports, and the journal's established editorial policies.

2.1. Prohibited Editorial Practices

Editors must not:

  • Discriminate against authors on the basis of nationality, geographic location, institutional affiliation, gender, religion, ethnicity, or other personal characteristics unrelated to the scholarly merit of their work.

  • Allow personal, professional, financial, institutional, commercial, political, or ideological interests to influence editorial assessments or publication decisions.

  • Request or encourage citations that are irrelevant, unnecessary, or unsupported by the scholarly content of the manuscript.

  • Engage in coercive citation practices intended primarily to increase citations to their own publications, a particular journal, or the publisher's scholarly output.

  • Disclose confidential information concerning submitted manuscripts to unauthorized individuals.

  • Use unpublished data, research findings, ideas, or other information obtained through editorial responsibilities for personal, professional, or institutional advantage.

  • Interfere improperly with the independent judgments of peer reviewers or other editors.

  • Use editorial authority to obtain personal benefits or impose inappropriate conditions on authors.

2.2. Required Editorial Responsibilities

Editors are required to:

  • Treat all submitted manuscripts fairly, objectively, consistently, and confidentially.

  • Evaluate submissions according to scholarly merit and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.

  • Select appropriately qualified, independent reviewers with relevant scientific or methodological expertise.

  • Avoid appointing reviewers whose relationships with the authors or submitted work could compromise their impartiality.

  • Declare actual, potential, or reasonably perceived conflicts of interest.

  • Recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where their independence or objectivity could reasonably be questioned.

  • Provide authors with clear, constructive, and adequately justified editorial decisions.

  • Ensure that requests for revision are scientifically relevant and directed toward improving the quality, accuracy, clarity, or integrity of the manuscript.

  • Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the peer-review process.

  • Address concerns relating to research ethics, authorship, originality, data reliability, and publication misconduct in accordance with established journal procedures.

  • Follow applicable policies concerning corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, complaints, and editorial appeals.

  • Cooperate with appropriate editorial investigations and publication-integrity procedures when necessary.

3. Editorial Independence

Editorial independence is a fundamental requirement of responsible scholarly publishing.

Editorial assessments and publication decisions must remain free from inappropriate commercial, financial, institutional, political, or personal influence.

The payment or non-payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC) must not influence reviewer selection, peer-review recommendations, editorial assessment, or the final decision concerning a manuscript.

Turkish Specialized Dental Publication recognizes the editorial independence of its journals and respects the authority of appropriately appointed editors to make publication decisions based on scientific merit, ethical compliance, and the journal's editorial standards.

Publisher-level administrative or financial considerations must not override legitimate editorial judgments concerning the acceptance or rejection of individual manuscripts.

4. Manuscripts Submitted by Editors and Editorial Board Members

Manuscripts authored or co-authored by an Editor-in-Chief, associate editor, section editor, or Editorial Board member may be considered for publication, provided that they undergo the same scientific, editorial, and ethical requirements applicable to other submissions.

Such manuscripts must be assigned to another appropriately qualified editor who is independent of the authors and has no relevant conflict of interest.

The author-editor must not participate in:

  • The initial editorial assessment of the manuscript.

  • The selection or invitation of peer reviewers.

  • The management or supervision of the peer-review process.

  • Editorial discussions concerning reviewer recommendations.

  • Decisions regarding revisions, acceptance, or rejection.

  • Any other stage of manuscript handling where their involvement could compromise editorial impartiality.

Manuscripts submitted by editors or Editorial Board members must undergo independent double-blind peer review by at least two qualified external reviewers.

Any revisions requested through the editorial process must be addressed in accordance with the journal's standard procedures.

The final publication decision must be made by an independent editor with appropriate authority and no relevant conflict of interest.

Where an article authored by an editor or Editorial Board member is accepted for publication, an appropriate disclosure should identify the author's editorial affiliation and confirm that the individual did not participate in the editorial assessment, peer review, or final decision-making process.

5. Confidentiality and Conflicts of Interest

Editors must preserve the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts, reviewer reports, editorial correspondence, unpublished research findings, and other information obtained through their editorial responsibilities.

Confidential manuscript materials must not be shared with unauthorized individuals or used for purposes unrelated to the legitimate editorial process.

Editors are required to disclose any financial, professional, institutional, personal, or other relevant relationship that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their judgment.

Where an actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest exists, responsibility for the manuscript must be transferred to another qualified and independent editor.

Editors must also take reasonable steps to identify and manage relevant competing interests among peer reviewers and other individuals involved in manuscript evaluation.

6. Joining an Editorial Board

Turkish Specialized Dental Publication welcomes expressions of interest from appropriately qualified researchers, academics, clinicians, and subject specialists who wish to contribute to the Editorial Boards of its affiliated journals.

Prospective Editorial Board members should demonstrate relevant academic qualifications, established expertise within the journal's scope, an appropriate research and publication record, and a commitment to ethical and responsible scholarly publishing.

Candidates may be considered for honorary or other editorial appointments in accordance with the organizational arrangements and needs of the relevant journal.

Application Requirements

Interested candidates should provide the following information and supporting documents through the application or contact procedure specified by the relevant journal:

  • An up-to-date academic curriculum vitae (CV).

  • A brief cover letter outlining their interest in editorial service.

  • A summary of their principal research interests and areas of expertise.

  • Details of their current institutional affiliation and professional contact information.

  • Relevant information concerning previous editorial or peer-review experience, where applicable.

Applications are assessed according to the journal's editorial needs, the applicant's qualifications, subject expertise, research experience, and capacity to fulfill editorial responsibilities.

Submission of an application does not guarantee appointment.

Prospective applicants should consult the relevant journal's official website or contact the publisher for information concerning current editorial opportunities and application procedures.

7. Editorial Accountability

Editorial Board membership requires continued adherence to the journal's editorial policies, professional standards, confidentiality obligations, and publication-ethics requirements.

Editors are expected to perform assigned responsibilities diligently, respond to editorial communications within reasonable timeframes, and maintain professional conduct throughout their appointment.

TSDP or the relevant journal may review an editorial appointment where concerns arise regarding:

  • Prolonged inactivity or repeated failure to fulfill assigned responsibilities.

  • Undisclosed or improperly managed conflicts of interest.

  • Breaches of manuscript or peer-review confidentiality.

  • Unethical conduct or violations of publication-integrity standards.

  • Misuse of editorial authority or inappropriate interference with editorial decisions.

  • Failure to comply with established editorial procedures.

  • Conduct that materially compromises the fairness, independence, or integrity of the editorial process.

Depending on the nature and seriousness of the concern, appropriate measures may include clarification of responsibilities, reassignment of duties, temporary suspension, or termination of the editorial appointment.

Any such action should be undertaken fairly and in accordance with the applicable journal's governance and editorial procedures.

8. Guest Editorship and Special Issues

Turkish Specialized Dental Publication welcomes proposals from qualified researchers, academics, dental specialists, clinicians, and other relevant professionals interested in serving as Guest Editors for Special Issues of its affiliated journals.

Proposed Special Issues should address scientifically relevant topics consistent with the aims and scope of the selected journal.

Potential subject areas may include clinical dentistry, oral and maxillofacial sciences, dental materials, preventive dentistry, oral healthcare, digital dentistry, artificial intelligence in dental research, interdisciplinary biomedical research, and related fields.

Responsibilities of Guest Editors

Guest Editors work in coordination with the journal's Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board to support the academic planning and editorial management of an approved Special Issue.

Their responsibilities may include:

  • Defining the scientific scope and objectives of the Special Issue.

  • Identifying relevant research questions, emerging topics, and areas of scholarly interest.

  • Preparing an appropriate call for papers, where authorized.

  • Inviting suitable scholarly contributions without guaranteeing acceptance.

  • Supporting the selection of qualified and independent peer reviewers.

  • Assisting with the evaluation of submitted manuscripts in accordance with the journal's editorial procedures.

  • Ensuring compliance with applicable research-integrity, confidentiality, and competing-interest requirements.

  • Cooperating with the Editor-in-Chief to maintain the scientific quality and coherence of the Special Issue.

All manuscripts submitted to a Special Issue must undergo the journal's standard double-blind peer-review process and comply with the same editorial, ethical, and publication requirements as regular submissions.

Guest Editors must not guarantee acceptance, bypass independent peer review, or make decisions involving manuscripts for which they have a relevant conflict of interest.

The Editor-in-Chief or another appropriately authorized independent editor retains responsibility for final publication decisions in accordance with the journal's governance arrangements.

Special Issue Proposal Requirements

Proposals for Guest Editorship should include:

  • The proposed title of the Special Issue.

  • A clear description of its scope and principal research themes.

  • The scientific rationale and relevance of the proposed topic.

  • An explanation of the expected scholarly contribution.

  • The names, affiliations, qualifications, and relevant expertise of the proposed Guest Editor or editorial team.

  • Any additional information requested by the relevant journal.

Special Issue proposals are evaluated according to the scientific relevance and timeliness of the topic, alignment with the journal's aims and scope, the qualifications of the proposed editorial team, and the journal's current editorial priorities.

Submission of a proposal does not guarantee approval or appointment as a Guest Editor.
