Dental composites are commonly used in the treatment of dental caries, yet they can sometimes lead to marginal fractures and the development of secondary caries. This study aims to investigate the role of antibacterial agents incorporated into modern composites in the management of dental caries. A systematic review was conducted by searching relevant articles across Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and PubMed databases. Studies published from 2011 to 2021 were selected, reviewed, and assessed

Maxillofacial prostheses are intended to restore the appearance of individuals and ensure the maintenance of their normal psychological state and quality of life. The longevity of these silicone prostheses is closely related to their color and mechanical properties. To systematically evaluate the current research on the color stability of maxillofacial silicone materials after disinfection and aging for 10 minutes, a comprehensive search was conducted on Google Scholar and PubMed, covering studi

Written by Saud Ahmed Aleidi   Published on Vol 2 Issue 1, 2022
This systematic review evaluated the efficacy of Ionoseal as a sealing and lining material in dental restorations by analyzing its clinical performance. The study used secondary data collection and analysis, using the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews and meta-analyses as the chosen methodological framework. The research process involved defining exclusion and inclusion criteria for article selection and using the Cochrane risk of bias tool for evaluating potential biases. Data presentati

Granular cell tumours (GCTs) are infrequent submucosal growths, presumed to arise from Schwann cells, distinguished by large polygonal cells containing numerous lysosomes. This study sought to explore whether GCTs display features of antigen-presenting cells (APCs) or neural crest cells (NCCs) using immunohistochemistry and to contrast their expression patterns with Schwannomas. Expression of APC-associated markers (CD68, HLA-DR, CD163, CD40, CD11c) and NCC-associated markers (S100, SOX10, NSE,

With the integration of digital workflows in dentistry, digital models can now be articulated inter-occlusally through different digital techniques. The Cadent iTero intraoral scanner records the maxillomandibular relationship via a buccal scan taken in maximum intercuspation. This in-vitro research evaluated the occlusal accuracy obtained from traditional stone cast articulation compared with that of digitally articulated quadrant-milled models. Thirty pairs of stone casts made from full-arch p

As time progresses, the junction between dentin and restorative biomaterials deteriorates, facilitating the passage of saliva, tissue fluids, and bacteria between the filling or restorative substance and the dentin surface. The present investigation explored how long-term exposure to simulated human salivary/bacterial/blood esterases (SHSE) affects the development and survival of Enterococcus faecalis biofilms formed along the dentin interface when different endodontic materials are employed. Lip reconstruction after ablative surgery has traditionally relied on primary closure, with free flap transfers emerging as a more recent approach. Cheek skin flaps have often been employed to restore the cutaneous portion of the lower lip. In this study, we describe a combined reconstructive strategy using the Goldstein–Robotti technique to rebuild the vermilion, alongside a buccinator flap to restore the lip’s cutaneous layer and perioral muscles. This double-layer method enables full reconstr

Written by Lucas Silva   Published on Vol 2 Issue 1, 2022
Peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF) is a benign growth localized to the gingiva and alveolar mucosa, often arising from periodontal ligament cells. It most commonly occurs in women in their twenties, making diagnosis challenging due to overlapping features with other oral lesions. Here, we report an unusual case of POF in the left lateral mandible of a 70-year-old male with two semicircular implant-supported bridges in both jaws. CBCT and panoramic imaging revealed no intraosseous abnormalities.

This study aimed to investigate how common dental fear is among Finnish conscripts and to explore its relationship with caries experience and self-perceived oral health. The study population comprised 13,564 male and 255 female conscripts who received oral examinations, with 8,713 individuals completing a digital questionnaire. Caries experience was assessed using the mean number of decayed teeth (DT), while self-reported dental fear, dentition-related well-being, and regular dental attendance w

This study aimed to evaluate and compare the leaching behavior of four clear aligner systems: Invisalign®, Eon®, SureSmile®, and Clarity®. For each system, three sets of aligners were obtained, sectioned, and immersed in glass vials containing various ethanol–water mixtures: 100% ethanol, 75% ethanol/25% water, 50% ethanol/50% water, 25% ethanol/75% water, and 100 percent water. The samples were incubated at 37 °C for two weeks. Leached compounds were analyzed using gas chromatography–mass spect
